Those crazy Canadians.
First, they build houses out of ice. Now, I find out they're also building 'em out of bottles. Les Maisons De Bouteilles, or Bottle Houses, are a suite of buildings on Canada's Prince Edward Island, made of over 25,000 glass bottles held together with cement. The structure was built by Canadian Edouard Arsenault starting in 1980, and now includes a chapel, a tavern, and a gabled house.
Doesn't anybody use bricks and boards for homebuilding anymore??

The pump organ (above) is the only thing NOT made out of bottles

The sun wasn't out the day I was there, but supposedly it looks really spectacular with sunlight streaming through all the bottles.

Mr. Arsenault saved some of his favorite bottles for the bar in the tavern building.

Several weddings have been performed in the bottle chapel.

The pews are made of votive candle bottles.

Hah.... welcome to my neck of the woods Basia (though admittedly I'm in
Toronto)! Perhaps you'll remember me from the one or two interactions we
had via comments in your India blog. But then you may not, given the number
of fans you have had! Just wanted to touch base and say that on revisiting
your blog after a break of a few months, I was disappointed to learn you've
left India and that we'd no longer be treated every so often to your
wonderful write-ups. Oh well... I guess all good things must come to pass.
But I'll bet you're happy to be home at the same time.
OK, that bottle wedding chapel looks pretty sweet -- I'd get married there!
(Reminds me of legos, who doesn't love legos?)
Basia.. the chapel looks real cool :)
Kevin: Yeah, it definitely caught my eye.
